While students are off for the PA Day, many Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ staff are engaged in meaningful learning opportunities to support student success.Ìý

Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ students and staff will acknowledge Tuesday, September 30th as National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day, through age-appropriate learning. Orange Shirt Day opens the door to conversations on all aspects of residential schools, and meaningful discussion about the effects of residential schools and the legacy they have left behind. This year is the 10th anniversary of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action – a reminder that the work must continue in schools and communities.Ìý

Orange Shirt Day, and , reaffirm that all those who have been affected matter – and that Every Child Matters.Ìý

There are many important days in October that we will recognize through Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ’s website and social media @kprschools on Instagram and Facebook. Yom Kippur begins the evening of October 1, National Custodian Day is October 2, October 4 is National Day of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit Peoples (MMIWG2S), and World Teachers’ Day is October 5. Rebuilding Connection: Raising Socially Smart Kids in an Online World – takes place Saturday, September 27, from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Ìý

International and Indigenous Language (IILE) ProgrammingÌý

Students in Kindergarten to Grade 8 can participate in free, non-credit international and Indigenous language courses outside of school hours! The program will run Tuesdays, 4:30-6:00 p.m. at Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ’s Centres for Individual Studies in Clarington and Northumberland, and PACE @ PCVS in Peterborough (subject to minimum student registration). Ìý

International language instructors focus on the development of the four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing with an emphasis on oral language development. Indigenous language instructors focus on listening and speaking within the context of land and culture. Ìý
